How we calculate

We use two well-known viewing-angle guidelines. At 30 degrees (the guideline attributed to SMPTE) your distance is 1.63 times the screen diagonal. At 40 degrees (THX) it is 1.2 times: the screen then fills more of your view.

With 4K you only see the pixels from very close, so the screen can be large: between distance divided by 1.63 and distance divided by 1.2. With Full HD you see the pixels sooner, so we pick a smaller screen: between distance divided by 2.5 and distance divided by 1.63.

The TVs below come from Couchowl's size groups in that range. Also measure the spot where the TV goes: a 65 inch TV is about 145 cm wide.
